The opener is in, and it’s really quiet. The fan moves air, the cord reel is very handy, and the speaker plays Radio New Vegas. Now to clean up the remnants of the old install.

I want one of these. I saw the add and thought it was so fucking cool

Whaaaaaa?
Ryobi has gone off the deep end. In a good way.

If you have a decent bracing setup already in place, the install should go a lot faster than mine did.
I had to cut the new bracing from 4 foot bars because the old screw drive opener was installed by a moron. So I bought a hacksaw, and probably will need a new blade.

So yesterday I was all sure yeah it’s just a nice looking garage door opener. Now I see the attraction. This is awesome

That is one hell of an opener! Nice!

That’s a cool system! Wish I had it on my radar when we had to replace our unit last year (esp since most of our other tools are Ryobi at this point too).
Found this video about the modular system - sounds like they tried to save some money by automating the voice-over. Hilarious!

Makes me think of this

This is true. I’m still proud of the insanely overengineered mounting bracket.

The fact that a garage door open can open “new frontiers of human existence...”
I’ll be honest, I did a whiskey shot after hearing that, because it is so insane.

And at some point, I’ll put the matching one up on the other door.

I saw the one they put in on This Old House Hour and it looked pretty awesome. The cord reel looks really useful. There’s never an outlet or extension cord in the garage where/when you need it.

I literally just bought a new garage door opener last Saturday. Makes me wish I had a Home Depot near by instead of Menard’s because I totally would have bought that instead.

I don’t think I’ve ever been jealous of a garage door opener until now. I want it! The only thing that wouldn’t work for me is the fan since my garage isn’t insulated and it would just blow the hot air up by the ceiling down. The rest? Perfect.

Foolish question: I assume the thrust rail is really secure on the other end?
Because, yaw control you got, roll and pitch control you got, thrust control...?

Also, take the tag off the hose reel, you doofus.

but first, it will open your garage ... lol

I was skeptical but now I want that thing so badly.

OK, now that is cool. If only I could afford a home...

I was seriously thinking about getting this, if for no other reason than the cord reel and a way to use my ryobi batteries now that i’ve switched to Ridgid tools...

Neato! I really dig that cord reel .
This is one of those cases where I miss their old blue color scheme though.

There’s also an air compressor with a cord reel, but I didn’t get that because I already have an 8 gal shop compressor.

I ordered from homedepot.com, mainly because they don’t like to stock low velocity SKUs in stores.

Yeah, I think those air hose reels are better off being mounted by the door anyway, so that they can reach further outside whe n needed.

So it has a fan, a light and opens/closes the garage door... BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE A USB PORT???

5 lag bolts into stacked 2x10s. It’s about the only thing built in a way that could be considered semi-proper.

There is no hose reel. Therefore there is no tag.

Vancouver and Toronto are absolutely insane in terms of housing costs.

My kitchen is above this, and at some point, I’ll insulate the walls properly and finish it with a window heat pump.

When I had the wife’s cousin help me wire up my garage I focused mainly on the back wall...BUT I also put 3 plugins down each sidewall, just in case. Each wall’s set of plugs is also a completely separate 15 amp circuit. Also put in a 240 for my welder, a 240 for an overhead heater, a circuit for my compressor, a circuit for a bunch of LED lights, and a circuit for each future garage door openers. I figured why not. A roll of wire is so cheap I might as well use it up. The heavy gauge wire to run power from the house to the garage... not so cheap.

I saw the video on this awhile ago, super cool idea. How long is the cord?

30ft. Which is enough for most purposes I have.
